Field Notes

Not everything in an archive is an essay. Some of it is only what someone happened to notice.

These are kept without explanation, in the order they were found. Make of them what you will.

• —The archive smells different after rain.
• —The Virgo vessel has never once burned the same way twice.
• —Someone keeps moving Entry III.
• —The Perseids arrived early this year. So did the Curator's note about them.
• —No one has been able to date the wax seal on the oldest ledger.
• —There is one page we do not lend out. We are no longer certain why.

New ones are found from time to time. That is the nature of an archive still being kept.
