Preservation

Every Vessel may be received.
Not every Vessel is preserved.
The difference is remembrance.
What is true of a Vessel is true of everything the Sanctuary holds. It would be easy to keep all of it; every page turned, every room entered, or every night someone happened to pass through. But a record that remembered everything would only be a mirror.
So the Sanctuary keeps a memoir.
The candle preserves a story.
The Grimoire preserves what you kept.
The Book preserves what you became.
The Observatory preserves the nights you were awake for.
And the Sanctuary preserves the Keeper.
